The # 1 Threat... The #1 Threat It aint your gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals, trans-gendereds or transsexuals folks. The number one scourge to the bonds of matrimony is a practice thats accepted worldwide. A universal out thats prevalent in many religions that Gods gracious sun shines upon. A tradition that leaves husbands and wives spouseless, children parentless, and the county welfare rolls overflowing. A custom so pervasive that there are legal scholars that specialize in it. A procedure honored by courts and churches alike. That ritual my friends, is something called divorce. Now dont go thinking Im either anti-marriage or anti-divorce. I just think that marriage should be a more difficult contract to enter into for everyone. And divorce should be more difficult to attain, the way it used to be. The advent of no-fault divorce was a license to give up. It absolved all parties of any personal responsibility they have to honor a contract duly entered into. It totally mitigated compromise. Divorce has brought more dishonor to the institution of both civil and religious marriage that a thousand gay weddings could ever hope to. In sickness and in health If people who profess faith cannot honor these simple promises of fealty, who the hell are they to determine who can and who cannot enter into such an arrangement? Ive never been a proponent of gay marriage, until now. Im of the opinion that the time for acceptance of gay marriage has not yet come to pass. But I never thought I would see provisions against it come to pass. Ive had the luxury of being able to afford the army of lawyers and their attendant fees to forge documents that give me the rights that heterosexual marrieds are granted with the flick of a pen. There are but a few benefits marrieds take for granted that I still cannot attain. Dependent medical coverage is one. Again, Im in a financial position to pay for any medical needs, but if I look beyond my small world, many cannot say the same.
